Is Matriarchy a Pipe Dream?
The World Feels Broken. Here's How You Can Start Fixing It.
Hello!
I have to admit recently I have gone down some dark rabbit holes about what is happening in the world right now and I was feeling very ‘we are all doomed’. HOWEVER today is the first full day of me being 54 and with it has come great wisdom which I have decided to share with you!
For most of my Gen X adult life, I have been trying to figure out a better way to run this world thing we are all part of. And at the moment, there is a lot of talk about switching to a Matriarchal society being a solution.
Well let me tell you a secret…
Earlier this year I started a three-year adventure into studying Matriarchal Studies under the tutelage of the great German philosopher and researcher of matriarchal culture and societies Dr Heide Goettner-Abendroth. And it is FASCINATING. I’m looking forward to sharing ideas from what I learn on here.
Is a Matriarchy a Pipe Dream?
The world once operated under women led communities which focused on care and peace and community as opposed to patriarchies which are built on violence, greed and competition. There are still matriarchal societies in operation around the world which we can all learn from.
Matriarchies are not anti-men or female led versions of patriarchal structures. They are inclusive. They are the best system for both men and women to live in.
I believe we can actually flip society from patriarchy to matriarchy within ten years and there is a very simple way to do it. It starts with YOU meeting up with four or more other brilliant women like you, somewhere you like, in your home, in a cafe, in a park and working together to make a small change locally. That’s all it takes.
How Can This Change the World?
Because you won’t be the only one doing this. There is an amazing woman called Lydia Knight who has stepped away from the multi-million-dollar company she grew to start a movement called The She Centre. Her idea is simple but genius. She pumped a huge amount of time and money into creating a FREE app (download The She Centre app now!) where women all over the world are creating Matriarchal circles like the one I described. Check out the app to see if there is a group in your area to join or you can start your own. The app is only new but the amount of groups starting on there already shows how many of us want things to change and crave community. The She Center has a ton of resources, guidance and support to help develop women led communities.
And while you might feel starting a small local group won’t make a difference – that it would only be a drop in the ocean – well that is exactly the thing to remember, a mighty ocean is made of lots of little drops of sparkling water. It’s time for you to become a sparkling drop.
Women Have Done This Before. It's Time to Do It Again.

I read a great book years ago now by Layne Redmond "When the Drummers Were Women." It goes into the 'fall' and how it came about. Fascinating.
Happy birthday and yes it’s time for a women’s revolution. I’m all in.
